Description

Cuentaviñas Los Yelsones is a single-vineyard red by Eduardo Eguren, made from 100% Tempranillo grown in Viña La Rad in the upper part of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The vineyard was planted in 1970 with a south-east exposure on calcareous clay soils containing moraines, quartzite and large blocks of calcium carbonate known locally as “yelsones”, which contribute freshness and a distinctive mineral character.

The grapes are hand harvested and undergo double sorting. Fermentation is spontaneous in small French oak vats with gentle extraction, followed by a late malolactic fermentation in new 500-litre barrels. The wine ages for 18 months in 500-litre barrels and then rests for 3 months in bottle. It shows red fruit, floral and mineral notes, a chalky texture, lively freshness and a long, saline, persistent finish.
