Description
Valdecontina Godello is a white wine from D.O. Bierzo produced by Valdecontina Viñedos y Bodega, a winery located in the Boeza River valley in Albares de la Ribera, within the higher-altitude area of Bierzo. The estate works with several distinct vineyard sites —Valdecontina, La Galapana and Valle del Río— with the aim of expressing the individual character of each site and the region’s traditional grape varieties. It’s vineyards, managed with minimal intervention, are on south facing slopes where the soils are a mix of sandy-clay and stones, well suited to Godello.
Made exclusively from Godello, the grapes are harvested by hand before cold pressing and static settling, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then spends several months on its fine lees, gaining texture and complexity while retaining freshness. The nose shows stone fruit, pear, citrus peel, aniseed and chamomile notes, while the palate is broad, mineral and savoury, with lively acidity and a long, fresh finish.
