D’Arenberg The Custodian Grenache is made from gapes grown in the stunning McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills in South Australia. The winery was founded in 1912 and is now managed by the 4th generation of the Osborn family. During the vine pull scheme in the 80’s, d’Arry Osborn refused to remove his old grenache vineyards. Today d’Arenberg is the keeper of nearly one third of McLaren Vale’s old bush vine grenache, earning the title of ‘ The Custodian’ of the variety. The grapes are gently crushed and transferred to open fermenters where food treading is undertaken. The wine is basket pressed and then transferred to a mixture of new and used French and American oak barrels to complete the fermentation, then aged on lees. The wine is not fined or filtered prior to bottling.
