Romaneira is one of the largest estates in the Douro, with a total of 412 hectares and 3 kilometres of river frontage on the river Douro. The vineyards are planted on terraces on the steeply sloping hills of the property. Romaneira contains several microclimates and various South Easterly, South Westerly and Southern facing slopes. All their wines are made exclusively from grapes from their vineyards, a distinctive characteristic of Quinta da Romaneira wines. Dona Clara uses both the name and the image of the principal Quinta house, Dona Clara. The elements for this wine are sourced from all over Quinta da Romaneira, and more than any other wine is a faithful representative of all the aspects of the property. From 2019 onwards, the blend for Dona Clara is not only made up of all the traditional Douro varietals grown at Romaneira: Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao, but also includes certain lots of both Syrah and of Petit Verdot. Aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 8% of which were new.
