Cuentavi\u00f1as Los Yelsones is a single-vineyard red by Eduardo Eguren, made from 100% Tempranillo grown in Vi\u00f1a La Rad in the upper part of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The vineyard was planted in 1970 with a south-east exposure on calcareous clay soils containing moraines, quartzite and large blocks of calcium carbonate known locally as \u201cyelsones\u201d, which contribute freshness and a distinctive mineral character.<\/p>\n
The grapes are hand harvested and undergo double sorting. Fermentation is spontaneous in small French oak vats with gentle extraction, followed by a late malolactic fermentation in new 500-litre barrels. The wine ages for 18 months in 500-litre barrels and then rests for 3 months in bottle.
